In 1911, Lord Baden-Powell began training Scouting’s adult leaders by organizing a series of lectures. In 1919, these lectures became the basis for Wood Badge Training. The primary purpose of Wood Badge has always been to strengthen Scouting in our units, districts and local councils. Since 1919, Wood Badge has continued to evolve to meet Scouting’s’ needs. Wood Badge for the 21st Century has been developed for Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity Scout, Explorer and Venturing leaders, as well as council and district leaders. Its focus is on leadership and compliments National Youth Leadership Training. The first weekend includes presentations and activities that simulate the Webelos to Scout transition and three weeks of a Scouting unit’s meetings and activities. The second weekend parallels the experiences of a Scouting unit setting out on a weekend campout for an exciting and challenging outdoor experience. |
